Multicultural Scholarship Program (MSP)

The Multicultural Scholarship Program (MSP) is housed in the Balfour Center for Multicultural Affairs. This scholarship program is a unique system of support and opportunities designed to support the recipients of select multicultural scholarships here at Providence College.  In line with the College’s mission, MSP recipients are able to actively cultivate and enhance their “intellectual, spiritual, ethical, and aesthetic values within the context of the Judaeo-Christian heritage. These values are nurtured by the unique tradition of the Dominican Order which emphasizes quality teaching and scholarship.” This unique scholarship program has successfully graduated well over 600 students, who have gone on to distinguish themselves in a variety of ways by entering careers in medicine, business, law, education, and religion.

Similar to the athletic and merit scholars, multicultural scholars are given exclusive opportunities to receive money based on their anticipated cultural contributions to the College.  MSP scholars receive academic advising, transitional guidance, professional development and mentorship from the MSP program director. The scholarships are intended to support the recipient for four years. Scholars have the support of the MSP Committee which monitors their progress. In return, MSP scholars are expected to share their culture through leadership activities, to serve with varying student clubs and organizations specific to their majors and to their general social interest.  As a result, scholars are broadening cultural awareness and enhancing the academic and campus community.
