Since the first graduating class from the Martin Luther King Scholarship Program in 1972, we have enjoyed the support and presence of our successful graduates. This tradition is continuing with the current alumni who make up the Black Alumni Organization as well as alumni from the Cunningham Southeast Asian Scholarship program.
Alumni from these scholarship programs are generously sharing their time, expertise and wide ranges of experiences. Mallory Davis and Jay Huguley, for example, mentor the young men of the Multicultural Scholarship Program. (Jay, was recently accepted in a graduate program at Harvard and will not be present to assist the program this year.
Mal Davis and Eva Irby attended the End-of-Year Senior Banquet in May and presented several seniors with acknowledgments from the Black Alumni Organization. There have been barbeques hosted by Martin Luther King Scholarship Alums to welcome new students and to acknowledge and support current Multicultural Scholarship Program recipients.
Each year at the annual Scholarship Luncheon, we bring back one of our alums to be the keynote speaker. This year, on Saturday, September 20, Mr. Steven Goodison, of the class of ‘94 will be our speaker. For further information regarding events where alumni are featured or to volunteer your services and support, you may contact the Balfour Center at 401-865-2738.
We encourage our alumni to keep in touch with the current students of the Multicultural Scholarship Programs. Alumni should consult our events page for dates and venues for Balfour Center sponsored events.
