Varsity athletics first appeared on the Providence College campus in 1929.
Since that time, Providence College has been known for its successful Friar athletic teams.


Athletics at Providence College is made up of The Friars, NCAA Division I, BIG EAST and HOCKEY EAST Varsity Athletics, Intramurals and Recreational Sports.

Did you know?


A new, multipurpose, artificially surfaced field adjacent to the Peterson Recreation Center was dedicated in September 2005.

The field is used for varsity competition by the field hockey and lacrosse teams and for intramural and recreational activities.
