Jack writes: "After graduating Providence College I went on to work for EF Education, a student/teacher travel firm in Boston. In addition to that, I have lead courses for Outward Bound's Thompson Island youth program, where I taught leadership and outdoor skills to young adults from around the Boston area." He recently returned from Argentina where he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.
Abby Long '06
Abby has been teaching in Tongliao, Inner Mongolia since last fall. She just returned from a whirlwind trip that included Kuala Lumpur, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong and Macau, she is finishing up teaching English to elementary school students. On April 2, 2007, she writes:
"Starting October 2007 I'm headed out to CALIFORNIA! I was just recently accepted into Americorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC). I was placed in Sacramento, Cali! For the next year I will be working with a team all over the western part of the country providing public service to those in need. I'm so excited! And it feels good to know I have a future."

Leah is currently working for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, MD Chapter (located in Owings Mills, MD). She writes:
"I am the Community Development Coordinator for Central Maryland. I work with clients, event participants, fundraisers, and sit on various chambers in my region. I have been with the organization for eight months.Prior to my current job, I was employed as an AmeriCorps VISTA at Medfield Heights Elementary School in Baltimore City. I wrote grants, organized fundraising projects, managed over 60 volunteers, coached girls basketball and helped grow the school's Outdoor Classroom Learning Program. I did this from July 2005-July 2006.
I plan on staying with the NMSS, MD Chapter until the Fall of 2008, at which point I am hoping to go back to graduate school to pursue a Masters (and potentially a PhD) in Marriage, Family and Sex Therapy."
Sasha Gillin '04

Sasha Gillin finished an internship with the AFL-CIO’s Union Summer in Kansas City , Missouri after graduation in 2004 and is now a paralegal at Segal, Roitman & Coleman in Boston , the largest union-side labor and employment law firm in New England . The firm represents public and private sector unions, benefit plans and individuals. Sasha’s work is primarily focused on the employee benefits practice.

Jeff was the recipient of the American Studies Culture Award in his senior year and has been working in some well-known media organizations and companies, including Lexis-Nexis and Business Wire. He is currently an editor at TechTarget, an information technology media company. He is applying to Northeastern’s Graduate School of Journalism to pursue a Master of Arts degree for the fall of 2006.

Kate was a double major, combining American Studies and English. She has been working a a Learning Coach and Community Specialist at Starbucks Coffee Company in Sea Girt, NJ. She is applying to graduate school to pursue a Masters of Arts in Teaching to begin in fall 2006.

so many different things, and have gone into a career in publishing. The
broad curriculum that I chose for myself as an American Studies major has
proven to be an asset as I am in the business of selling textbooks about
many genres. I encourage current undergrads to consider an AMS major
because they will learn so much. I never took one class in marketing, but
I now work as a Marketing Associate at Jones and Bartlett Publishers. In
fact, not one person in the marketing department at my company was a
Marketing or Business major!"
