PC Degrees: B.A. in Elementary/Special Education, minors in Mathematics and Studio Art
PC Activities: Women's Soccer, Habitat for Humanity, Pastoral Service Organization
Career Path: As a result of Zagura's undergraduate community service experience at Providence College--which included working with children with disabilities at the Fresh Air Fund and other camps and volunteering through PC's Pastoral Service Organization--she was hired as a social worker upon graduation.
Her love of both travel and serving others inspired her to join the United States Peace Corps. During her two years of volunteering with the Corps, Zagura served as a junior secondary school teacher, and later, the coordinator of the School for Children with Disabilities for the children of Tarawa, an atoll in the Gilbert Islands of the Republic of Kiribati, Central Pacific.
Zagura then returned to the States to attend graduate school at Boston University while coaching soccer at several colleges. She will receive her master's degree in mechanical engineering in May 2007. Assimilating her past experience in international service and her current mechanical engineering education, Zagura will work to develop machinery to help third world countries become more efficient and competitive in the global marketplace.
Staying Involved: Still an avid athlete, Zagura has played with Massachusetts's WPSL Stingers and Aztecs soccer teams, has completed her fifth Boston Marathon, and continues to support the PC women's soccer team. She develops the service-oriented interests she cultivated at Providence College by volunteering at a local food pantry.
Memorable Quote: "My life's adventure got a great beginning at PC due to a well-rounded Liberal Arts education. The combination of sports programs, attentive professors, and volunteer opportunities provides a broader perspective and prepares students with the tools they need to face the challenges that lie ahead."
