PC Degrees: Bachelor of Arts/English
PC Activities: Keeler worked at PC’s WDOM radio station as a DJ and in its news department, and served as its rock director and general manager.
Career Path: After graduating from PC in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in English, it took Keeler several years to find her niche. She worked for a time at a museum, then made the move to retail, and later spent a number of years in the corporate world, but nothing seemed to fit. Finally, her lifelong passion for cooking led her to the French Culinary Institute in New York City .
The day after she graduated from the FCI’s six-month program in 1998, Keeler landed a job as a line cook for Food Network celebrity chef Bobby Flay at his New York restaurant, Mesa Grill, and quickly rose through the ranks. She has even had the opportunity to go to TV shows and tapings and to be on television herself. In 2005, she assisted Flay with the opening of Bar Americain in New York City .
Today, Keeler is the Executive Chef at Flay’s newest restaurant, Bobby Flay Steak, in Atlantic City ’s newly expanded Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa. Bobby Flay Steak is the celebrity chef’s personal twist on the traditional American chophouse. Keeler, who oversaw the opening of Bobby Flay Steak, is responsible for everything that goes on in the kitchen, from the hiring process to the quality of the products she orders. She knows Flay trusts her to stay true to his food and to his vision.
Staying Involved: Although her hectic schedule as both a mom and a gourmet chef doesn’t leave her with much time to participate in alumni activities, Keeler does try to take her family to a New Jersey Devils hockey game whenever the team has a PC night.
Transforming Quote: “What I remember most about PC was working at the radio station. I was so shy and quiet then, but I went down into the radio station and worked as a DJ and now no one on earth would believe I was ever shy! That experience really helped me come out of my shell and to be more comfortable with who I really am.”
