Activities Participated in as a PC Student: Baseball (catcher), Cadet Officers Honor Club, Carolyn Club (for dormitory students), Sophomore Weekend Committee, Junior Prom Committee, Monogram Club (for varsity student-athletes), St. Thomas More Club, Ship & Scales Club, and New Haven Regional Club.
Career Path Highlights: After graduation, Howe went on active duty with the U.S. Army. He was stationed initially at Fort Benning, Georgia, and subsequently was assigned to an infantry unit at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He joined The Travelers Insurance Company as an underwriter in the Group Department in 1961 and continued to serve in the U.S. Army on active reserve until 1968.
His career at Travelers spanned nearly 35 years. He was promoted from underwriter to chief underwriter, then secretary, and finally, a vice president, account management, national accounts in the Managed Care and Employee Benefits Department. Through his position, Howe had the opportunity to travel extensively and has been to Europe, the Middle East, and all over the U.S.
Family: Wife, Kathryn (married for 46 years); two children, Warren III '87 and Alison '90
Staying Involved: Howe co-founded the Greater Hartford Chapter of the Providence College National Alumni Association in 1968 and served as its first president. He also served as the Greater Hartford regional chairman of the Annual Fund Drive from 1968-1994. He served as secretary of the National Alumni Association's Board of Governors in 1975 and as president from 1989-1990, and was a board member for a total of eight years.
Howe's service and dedication to his alma mater have been recognized on numerous occasions. In 1981, he was awarded the "Friars Award" by the Greater Hartford Alumni Club. He received the "Diamond Torch Award" during the College's 75th Anniversary Celebration in 1992. In 2007, he was awarded the National Alumni Association's "Faithful Friar Award." He continues to support his alma mater by attending College events. He is a longtime member of the President's Circle.
