Sister Kathleen Cannon, O.P.

Activities Participated in as a PC Student: She planned and executed the 25th anniversary celebration of PC's summer theology program.

Career Path Highlights: Sister Cannon, who earned her B.A. in mathematics at Ohio Dominican College, began her career as an educator as a secondary school teacher at St. Mary High School, teaching English and religion. She also taught mathematics and religion at Northwest Catholic High School and St. Thomas High School, where she also served as department chair. She later served as general councillor for the Dominican Sisters, St. Mary of the Springs. She earned a doctor of ministry degree from The Catholic University of America in 1982.

Sister Cannon received her master's degree in religious studies from Providence College in 1975 and her doctor of ministry degree from The Catholic University of America in 1982. She joined the faculty of Albertus Magnus College as an assistant professor of religious studies and chaplain and later taught at the Catholic Theological Union as an assistant professor of word and worship. She then joined the faculty of the University of Notre Dame as associate provost and concurrent associate professor of theology. She was later named associate dean of the university's College of Science and concurrent associate professor of theology. In addition, she was acting director of the Institute for Church Life for one year.

Sister Cannon participates in programs sponsored by the University of Notre Dame's Center for Social Concerns, such as Rebuilding Together and the homeless center. She also takes part in a theological reflection each year with Notre Dame students who do summer service projects. A member of the Board of Trustees of Ohio Dominican University, Sister Cannon previously served on the boards of Dominican Academy, St. Mary's Academy, and the Montessori School.

Staying Involved: Sister Cannon was appointed to Providence College's Board of Trustees in 2005. She is a member of the board's Academic Affairs Committee and Student Affairs Committee. She is also a member of the College's Corporation.
