Career Path: In his days as a Friar, Billy Donovan helped the Providence College men's basketball team to an NCAA Tournament Final Four appearance in 1987. Earning Honorable Mention All-American, BIG EAST Conference First Team, New England Player of the Year, and Providence Athlete of the Year honors, he was the team's MVP and captain from 1986-1987.
After graduation, Donovan worked for two years on Wall Street before returning to basketball. He became a graduate assistant, and then assistant men's basketball coach, at the University of Kentucky. In 1994, he became head coach at Marshall University in West Virginia where he transformed the basketball program and was named the 1994 National Rookie Coach of the Year, WV Coach of the Year, and Southern Conference Coach of the Year. Donovan is currently the head men's basketball coach at the University of Florida, a job he has had since 1996. In that time, he's coached the Florida Gators to eight consecutive 20-wins seasons and to eight consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including a pair of Final Fours and the school's first national championship in 2006.

Staying Involved: Still a Friar at heart, Donovan was inducted into the Providence College Hall of Fame in 1999.
