Career Path:  After leaving PC in 1963, Ryan studied at American University in Washington, D.C., while serving as a Lieutenant in the United States Army.  Ryan worked as area manager for the Control Data Corporation before embarking on a prominent career at Chase Manhattan Bank.  At Chase Manhattan, he held various positions, starting as project manager in the Data Processing Division, then serving as Executive Vice President for the Corporate Operations & Systems and Individual Banking divisions.  Ryan moved into the position of Vice Chairman of the company before advancing to President and Chief Operation Officer of Chase Manhattan.  Ryan was then hired by Prudential Insurance Company of America as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, the first person in the history of the 123 year-old financial institution to be hired from outside the company.

Family:  Wife Patricia; son Arthur graduated from Providence College in 1989.  Another son Kevin, and daughters Kathleen and Kelly.

Staying Involved:  Ryan's loyalty to Providence College is apparent in his continued involvement.  Elected to the PC Board of Trustees in 1992, Ryan has served as chairman of the Honorary Degree Selection Committee, the vice co-chair of the Providence 2000 Leadership Campaign, sponsor for the Chase/Providence College Alumni Challenge Program, and as a featured panelist of the Textron-Providence College Business Forum on Women & Minority Issues.  In addition, Ryan established the Arthur Ryan Family Scholarship at Providence College.  Ryan has been honored by Providence College with the National Alumni Personal Achievement Award, 75th Anniversary Alumni Services Award, and the Diamond Anniversary Award for his dedication and accomplishments.
