Providence College Student Chosen For Prestigious New York Internship Program at the Museum of Jewish Heritage
Date:  2006.01.24

Erin RiceProvidence, RI--The Museum of Jewish Heritage - A Living Memorial to the Holocaust  announced recently in a press release that Erin Rice, a member of the class of 2006 at Providence College, has been chosen to participate in the Lipper Internship Program at the museum in New York, NY during the spring 2006 semester.

A studio art and art history major, Rice is one of 16 interns from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and religions who will learn how to teach 20th-century Jewish history and the Holocaust to young people.  Since the Lipper program started in 1998, interns have worked with over 21,000 students from around the Northeastern United States.

As part of the training, Rice will study the museum's exhibitions, hear testimony from Holocaust survivors, and attend historical lectures by museum scholars on the topics of 20th-century Jewish history and the Holocaust. After training, interns share their knowledge in their hometowns and college communities by leading classroom lessons on Jewish heritage and the Holocaust. They also bring groups of middle and high school students to the museum to visit a three-floor exhibition about Jewish life over the past century--before, during, and after the Holocaust.
