After careful and extensive deliberation, the College's School of Business has introduced its first core curriculum.
Dr. Sue Lehrman, dean of the school, said all accounting, finance, management, and marketing majors now pursue a unified curriculum that requires a common set of core courses. The core curriculum went into effect at the start of the fall 2008 semester for the Class of 2012.
"This allows students more flexibility in terms of switching between business majors during their first two years and ensures that business graduates have a broad understanding of all major business disciplines," she said.
The new core curriculum consists of 13 courses from the College's four business disciplines. They range from Computer Applications in Business and Financial Accounting to Organizational Behavior and Ethics. All of the courses are required for business majors.
"The new core curriculum ensures that all PC business students graduate with cutting-edge, broad-based knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the dynamic world of business," Lehrman said. "Furthermore, our core includes an ethics course, which reflects our unique Catholic and Dominican mission and our commitment to graduating socially responsible students with a strong values base."
A committee of eight faculty members, with input from the entire School of Business faculty helped establish the revisions, which were approved by the Faculty Senate and College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. '80.
The committee members were Dr. Deirdre Bird, assistant professor of marketing; Joseph A. Gemma, assistant professor of management and assistant dean of undergraduate studies; Carol A. Hartley, C.P.A., assistant professor of accountancy; Dr. Linda F. Jamieson, associate professor of marketing; Lehrman; Paul J. Maloney, C.P.A, CFP, chair and assistant professor of finance; Judith M. Morse, C.P.A., assistant professor of accountancy; Dr. Harold B. Tamule, associate professor of finance; and Dr. David A. Zalewski, professor of finance.
