College Fair Guidelines

General

College Fairs provide high school students with the opportunity to get information and speak to representatives from many colleges and universities.  Each year, the Office of Admission is invited to participate in numerous fairs and based upon location, student interest, applicant history, and additional factors, the Office selects which college fairs are important to attend.  When a member of the Admission staff is unable to attend these fairs, we rely on our Alumni Ambassadors to cover fairs in various areas across the country.

Guidelines

Before the College Fair

1) You will be mailed a packet of information prior to the college fair you are scheduled to attend that will include:

  • Inquiry Cards (postcards that prospective students complete with address, high school, and intended major of study information)*
  • Road Piece Brochures (includes snapshots of information about Providence College including a list of majors and minors)
  • Class of 2013 and Student Body Profile Sheets
  • Course Catalog (for your reference, and if students want to look through it)
  • Providence College Banner (to display on college fair table)*
  • Pens
  • Nametags
  • College Fair Evaluation Form*
  • Return Address Information and Envelope

*Items should be mailed to the office in the envelope ASAP

2) Please familiarize yourself with the information on the Providence College website, in the Road Piece Brochures, and on the Class of 2013 and Student Body Profile.

3) Important: In the event of an emergency on the day of the fair and you are unable to attend the College Fair, please call the high school that is sponsoring the fair to let them know that you will not be there.

Day of the College Fair

  • Business attire is appropriate for a college fair.
  • Please plan to arrive approximately a half hour before the fair is scheduled to begin to find and set up your table.
  • Set up your table with the PC banner and the information that we have provided for you.
  • Note: Some fairs will provide dinner or light refreshments prior to the fair for college representatives. We will give this information to you as it becomes available to our office.

During the College Fair

  • It is required by NACAC (The National Association of College Admission Counseling) that you remain standing behind your table at all times and that you do not hand out any gimmicks such as candy, PC pens, etc. during the college fair.
  • Engage in conversation with any prospective student, parent, or guidance/college counselor that visits your table.  Ask where the student goes to high school, if the student has an intended major, if the student has visited the PC campus, etc.
  • Encourage prospective students to complete an inquiry card and look through our literature. Also, encourage the student to visit our website at www.providence.edu, read our Admission Blogs, and contact the counselor responsible for reading their application.
  • If you do not know the answer to a particular question, please do not guess the answer.

After the College Fair

  • Please complete the Alumni Ambassador College Fair Evaluation.
  • Return PC banner, completed inquiry cards and the evaluation form to the Office of Admission at your earliest convenience. While postage is included, you must drop the package off at a U.S. Postal Office and have the package "metered" (at no additional cost). Please do this in as timely a manner as possible, as we will need to send the banner to other volunteers. Send the envelope to:

    Diana Gingles
    Providence College Office of Admission
    Harkins Hall 222
