Office Communication

Current Students

In an effort to communicate to our students more efficiently, a majority of the communication(s) students will receive from the Office of Financial Aid will be electronic!  Notifications will be emailed exclusively to a student’s Providence College email account.  The email will either contain the message from the office or request that students log into their CYBERFRIAR account to retrieve important financial aid information.  Please note, if you are a graduate or school of continuing education student and do not have a Providence College email account established, the office will use your personal email or the email address reported on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The following is a summary of the communication enhancements that were launched by the Office of Financial aid in June 2008!

  • The Office of Financial Aid will no longer be mailing paper award letters to a student’s home address or a student’s Friar Box on-campus.  However, if a paper copy is required by the student for any reason, they may contact the office at anytime to obtain one.
  • Any time there is a modification made to a student’s financial aid award for any reason (i.e. appeal decisions, verification updates, inclusion of an outside scholarship), the student will receive an email letting them know that revised award information is available for viewing in their CyberFriar account.  When the student views their updated award there will be a message as to why the award has been modified.
  • The publications and forms that are meant to accompany a student’s renewal award (which are available at the end of June each year) will also only be available online.  This information can be found in either the FORMS or PUBLICATIONS  section of our website.   The email communication(s) coming from the office will periodically remind students where this relevant documentation can be downloaded, viewed or printed.
  • Students who have any missing documents (i.e. taxes, verification worksheet) that are required to be submitted to our office in order to complete their application for aid will also receive the notice electronically.  Any email a student receives about missing documents can also be viewed in their CyberFriar  account.  Once documentation has been submitted, students can check CyberFriar within the next few business days to see if the document has been properly updated.
  • Required forms will no longer be mailed out to students.  If we are requesting a form from you (i.e. verification worksheet), they are only available for download on the FORMS section of our website.  If a student is already in their CyberFriar  account viewing the missing items, they can click on the requirement (which is also a hyperlink) and it will direct the student to the FORMS section on our website.
  • Notification(s) about the financial aid renewal process and dates/deadlines for returning students will be communicated to the student through their Providence College email account in the months leading up to those important dates.

Students should check their Providence College email account often since we will be sending communications to them throughout the entire calendar year.

Please note, at this time our system is not equipped to include parents in the electronic communications that our students receive.  It is our hope that our students will share any and all pertinent information they receive electronically with their families or other concerned parties.

Periodically throughout the year, we will send important reminders or newsletters to parents regarding the renewal process for financial aid, release date of the initial award letter in subsequent years and any other important changes that impact the financial aid community and our families.  These notifications will be in a paper format and mailed directly to the home mailing address the student has listed with the College.

Prospective Freshman/Transfer Students

After the College’s May 1 deposit deadline, a majority of our communications with families will be delivered in the same format as our current students – electronic (see guidelines above)!   We will not be mailing any additional paper Financial Aid Notices, missing information letters or appeal decisions to the home mailing address once a student deposits at the College.

Please note, a student’s CyberFriar account is established by the Office of Enrollment Services and will not be available until after May 1.  Students will receive more information regarding this feature at a later date from the Office of Enrollment Services.
