Merit-based academic scholarships are only available to freshman applicants who have been chosen by the Office of Admission for inclusion in Providence College ’s highly selective Liberal Arts Honors Program. Out of approximately 1,000 entering freshmen, a maximum of 135 students will be included in this program.
Beginning with the class of 2012 (Fall 2008 entry), the merit scholarship categories will be the following:
The St. Dominic Scholarship equals the value of full tuition (approximately 30 will be awarded)
The St. Thomas Aquinas Scholarship equals the value of three-quarter (3/4) tuition (approximately 50 will be awarded)
The St. Catherine of Siena Scholarship equals the value of half (1/2) tuition (approximately 55 will be awarded)
Students enrolled in the Classes of 2010 and 2011 will continue to receive the scholarship amount indicated in their original scholarship agreement.
Competitive candidates for the Liberal Arts Honors Program are expected to have completed the most rigorous program of studies possible during their high school careers and have achieved grades that place them at the top of their class. All scholarships are renewable for up to four years provided that students remain active members of the Liberal Arts Honors Program and maintain a 3.25 GPA.
Providence College's Test-Optional Policy does apply to the review for merit scholarships and the Liberal Arts Honors Program. If candidates feel their test scores provide further evidence of academic ability and potential, they may wish to submit them to the Office of Admission.
There is no separate application necessary and the FAFSA and CSS Profile are not required to be considered for these merit-based scholarships. All early action and regular decision applicants for admission are automatically considered for the Liberal Arts Honors Program and accompanying merit-based scholarships.
Please note, students not offered a merit-based scholarship at the time of acceptance are not considered for these scholarships in subsequent years even if they are invited to join the Liberal Arts Honors Program.
In addition, if you receive another source of funding that is designated solely for tuition your merit-based award may be reduced since the total of these sources cannot exceed the tuition charge on an annual basis.
