Emma Brown '11

Major: Biology/Secondary Education
High School: Mount Abraham Union HS
Bristol, VT
E-Mail: ebrown4@providence.edu
PC Involvement: Urban Action, PC Pals, Education Club, Art Club, Intramural Basketball.
Emma's favorite part of being an Ambassador is being able to share her own college story, and to let prospective students know "how excited I am that I chose PC." She adds, "I love telling people my story because I know someday they are going to have a great college story too, and I hope they get as excited about whatever school they choose."
As you can see from her bio above, Emma came to PC from the state of Vermont, and even though she occasionally gets teased about it, she says that she "loves farming and cows... and telling people about my life back at home because it is so different, and demonstrates the diversity on the PC campus. "
Favorite Memory of DWC: "When I finished my first Civ final and walked out knowing that even though it was really hard, I had learned more than I had in any other class!"
Rich Dell'Isola '11
Major: Psychology Minor: Spanish
High School: Babylon Jr/Sr High School
Babylon, NY
E-Mail: rdelliso@providence.edu
PC Involvement: Orientation Leader, Campus Ministry, McPhail's Staff Member
Rich decided he was going to attend PC pretty early in his senior year of high school - he says, "I sent in my deposit in January!" Rich was invited into the Liberal Arts Honors Program and received a terrific scholarship, but the PC community stood out most to him. "Compared to the other schools I had visited, [PC] offered by far the most welcoming and tight-knit community."
Favorite Class: "Intro to Psych, hands down. My professor was so knowledgable and approachable, and the material was so interesting. It was ultimately because of this class that I declared a Psychology major."
Favorite spot in the city of Providence: "Thayer Street! There are so many amazing restaurants to choose from and it's very student-oriented."
Ted DeNicola '11

Major: Undeclared
High School: Bishop Hendricken High School
Warwick, RI
E-Mail: tdenico1@providence.edu
PC Involvement: Urban Action, Italian Club, Campus Ministry/Lector, NOLA Immersion, Relay for Life
Ted has a lengthy family tradition at Providence College. His grandfather played for the Friars in 1926 and graduated with the Class of 1930, and his father also attended and graduated from PC in 1974. Ted says, "My life has revolved around PC and its events since I can remember."
Favorite Place to Study: The Campus Ministry Center on the lower level of the chapel. "Free food, good company for procrastination, and open 24 hours."
What he would change about his freshman year: "I wish I had run for Student Congress and had been more heavily involved with service. I was so nervous about becoming acclimated and wanted to take it slow, but I definitely could have utilized the clubs to further develop my leadership role as a student. This year, I made sure to change that."
Allison Ferlito '10

Major: English Minor: Spanish
High School: Brooks School
North Andover, MA
E-Mail: aferlito@providence.edu
PC Involvement: PC Pals, PC For Life, English as a Second Language (ESL), Zumba, College Republicans, S.A.I.N.T.S., Tito's Tyrants Soccer
Allison applied to PC Early Action and made the decision to attend after visiting campus a couple of times, and "getting that 'right feeling' that everyone talks about so often." PC seemed like a good fit at the time because of Allison's own Catholic background, the academics, and the "kindness of everyone on campus."
Favorite spot in the city of Providence: Federal Hill! "It has the most amazing Italian food ever!"
If she could play at the D-I level, Allison would love to play soccer at PC, because she "secretly misses the glory days of high school sports." What she doesn't miss about high school? Her high school had Saturday classes! "That's right," she says, "Now you know why I love college so much !"
Maryclaire Henion '09

Major: Studio Art Minor: Art History
High School: Naugatuck High School
Naugatuck, CT
E-Mail: mhenion@providence.edu
PC Involvement: PC Irish Dance Club (Vice President and Founding Member), Liturgical Ministries through Campus Ministry.
Maryclaire is a wealth of information for students considering PC's Studio Art and/or Art History programs, and, on a practical note, she's a go-to person on campus for, as she puts it, "all those random things that the majority of college students do not have, but usually end up needing at some point... band-aids, a screwdriver, a glue stick, extra light bulbs, tide-to-go, etc...basically, if you ask, there's a 99% chance that I have it!"
Favorite Place To Study: The library, in a cubicle, with a cup of coffee. "It's where I work best! But studying outside in the warm weather is a nice change of pace!"
Favorite Class: Italian Renaissance Art. Maryclaire says, "My professor, Dr. Beckwith, made this class so much fun and extremely interesting... I had been thinking of going abroad to study in Florence, and this class truly helped me make the decision to go. It was absolutely worth it... it was awesome to actually see all of the works of art that I had studied in class."
Anna Mercatili '10

Major: Quantitative Economics
Minor: Mathematics
High School: Mount St. Mary Academy
Watchung, NJ
E-Mail: amercati@providence.edu
PC Involvement: Veritas (Yearbook) Staff, College Republicans, Special Olympics Volunteer, Intramural Athletics, On-Campus Job in Economics Department
Anna chose to attend PC, in her own words, "because of the strong community aspect I felt from the first time I stepped foot on campus." Coming from a Catholic high school, she also "enjoyed the presence of a faith-centered education."
Favorite Class: "Macroeconomic Analysis, because our professor integrated current events and real-life situations into our learning of basic economic theory... We followed the Wall Street Journal and tracked economic indicators to predict the path of the economy."
Anna's favorite off-campus spot is Providence Place Mall, because "it's great to take a break from schoolwork and enjoy a day of shopping." She adds, "The movie theater is perfect for rainy days, and you can always have a good time at Dave & Buster's or going out to dinner at one of the fine restaurants on the street level."
Zach Odachowski '11

Major: Psychology
High School: Xaverian Brothers HS
Westwood, MA
E-Mail: zodachow@providence.edu
PC Involvement: College Democrats, Outdoor Adventure Club (OAC), Intramural Sports, Urban Action
Zach made his decision to attend PC after visiting with thousands of other accepted students on Family Day. Although he initially didn't even want to apply to PC, his visit caused him to "realize that this was an amazing place, and it's felt like home ever since. The great community that I found here has made me feel so welcome."
Favorite spot in the city of Providence: Thayer Street. "It's such an interesting place where you can find almost anything; crazy stories, sushi, and just a fun time."
Zach's favorite memory from his Development of Western Civilization (DWC) class was comparing "the book Beowulf to the movie that had just come out in theatres a month earlier. It was really interesting to see how ancient civilization really impacts today, especially in entertainment."
Patricia Alexandre '10

Major: Political Science Minor: Spanish
High School: New Bedford High School
New Bedford, MA
E-Mail: palexan3@providence.edu
PC Involvement: Along with volunteering as an Admission Ambassador, Patti holds a work-study position on campus and is a member of the Portuguese Club.
Patti's favorite part of being an Ambassador is sharing with prospective students all that she has enjoyed about her experience here at PC, and she hopes they will all have as great an experience as she has had.
Spanish has been Patti's favorite class at PC, because she enjoys learning new languages and about different cultures. In fact, she can speak three different languages!
Advice to incoming freshman students: "Stop worrying!"
