The Department of Art and Art History offers programs of study leading to a bachelor of arts degree in art history and studio art.

Art History

The art history program emphasizes the historical, cultural, and formal contexts of art and provides a humanistic education. 

Career possibilities for art history majors:

  • research
  • museums and galleries
  • historic preservation
  • art education

The Major
A major is offered in art history which leads to the bachelor of arts degree.

The Minor
A minor in art history is also available.

Studio Art

The studio art program stresses a strong foundation in both the fine arts and the liberal arts on which to build careers in the art field.  The student is also prepared for graduate study leading to an M.F.A. in studio art.  The studio major takes courses not only in his/her field of concentration, but is also encouraged to experiment in other media in order to gain a wider knowledge of the studio arts.

The Major

Students may select from one of the following concentrations:

  • Ceramics
  • Digital Imaging
  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Photography
  • Printmaking
  • Sculpture
