Scholarships for Adult Students

Rev. John Cunningham Diversity Scholarship Fund:  Supports students whose native language is not English and/or who are members of under-represented minority groups and others who have experienced challenging circumstances or demonstrated financial need and do not already have an undergraduate degree. Two-thirds reduction in tuition for two classes per semester for first three semesters of study.  Application form.  Awarded each semester and summer. 

Rev. Michael Murphy Scholarship Fund: Limited, short-term aid.  For formally accepted degree or certificate students.  Renewable based on academic achievement and financial need.  Minimum 2.5 g.p.a. required.  Application form; also file FAFSA.  Awarded fall and spring semesters.   Typical award covers cost of one course.

SCE Women’s Scholarship Fund: $4,200 per academic year.  Awarded to one or more female students based on financial need and academic performance.  Applicants must have completed six courses in SCE or have 60 credits in transfer, and have an overall g.p.a. of at least 3.2.  Application form and essay required.  Also file FAFSA.  Awarded fall and spring.

Dr. Edwin K. Gora Award: $1,000 per year.  Applicants must be matriculated in a baccalaureate or associate degree program with 30 SCE credits and a minimum overall g.p.a. of 3.2.  Application form and essay required.  Awarded in late spring.

SCE Alumni Scholarship: Available to SCE students who do not receive financial assistance in the form of employer or other third party tuition assistance.  Those receiving certain types of federal / state financial aid are eligible to apply.  Additional criteria follow:

Applicant must:

  • be a head of household, male or female, with or without children
  • have an annual salary of $40,000 or less
  • be matriculated in a baccalaureate degree program
  • have completed a minimum of 30 credits in Providence College’s School of Continuing Education with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
  • be taking an average of two courses per semester
  • give evidence of a personal commitment to pursuing studies in higher education

Provides $600 per academic year; awarded in spring.
