There are alternate routes for students to follow in developing careers in business.  The traditional business major is a route that many students follow.  However, there are other students who are interested in careers in business but do not wish to major in business.  Providence College offers a Business Studies certificate program to satisfy the needs of such students.  The program consists of a series of seven business and business-related courses that students can take to supplement a non-business major.  These seven courses are designed to provide a foundation for future careers in business.  Students who successfully complete the requirements of the program are awarded a certificate in business studies.

Students can combine the Business Studies Program with any non-business major offered by the College.  As an example, if a student has a strong interest in  psychology, that student would select psychology as a major.  The student would then utilize elective courses to complete the requirements of the Business Studies Program.

The main advantage of the Business Studies Program is that it gives students the opportunity to elect a non-business major and yet still concentrate in business.  There is no official major that relates directly to the program.  The Business Studies Program crosses all of the business and business-related majors.  An internship is not required but is strongly encouraged.

Students are not eligible for this program until they are second-semester freshmen.  (Students should enroll as early in their academic careers as possible.)  Seniors are not eligible.

For detailed information on the requirements for the business studies certificate program, as well as course listings and descriptions, please see the on-line undergraduate catalog.  (Course note: course ACC 103 listed in the catalog is now ACC 203.)
