Content and Scope: This manuscript and sculpture collection, deposited in the Archives and Art Department, preserves the documents, letters, writings, photographs, memorabilia, drawings, molds and sculptures by Dominican priest, author and artist Thomas M. McGlynn, O.P. (1906-1977). Of the 128 documented sculptures, some of McGlynn's best known pieces are the 15 ½' marble statue of Our Lady of Fatima at Fatima, Portugal (1958), busts of Popes and the bronze Flight Into Egypt (1965). Manuscripts and related material regarding his writings-notably Vision of Fatima (1948) and the anti-racist off-Broadway play "Caukey" (1944)-are also included, as well as his draft of a book on contemporary church art. In the course of writing a biography of McGlynn, Richard A. McAlister, O.P., assembled useful research data, which is also available to scholars. There are 5,000 pieces and 100 objets d'art in this collection.
