Blackfriars' Guild Collection

Content and Scope: Material on the Blackfriars' Guild, a Catholic experimental theater group founded in 1937, is divided into categories dealing with the organization as a whole and with individual chapters. The records of the New York Chapter, which operated from 1940 to 1972, consisting of applications, theater history, playbills, scripts, pictures and reviews for virtually every production, constitute by far the largest part of the Collection.  (2, 500 pieces)

Finding Aids: A published finding aid to the collection is available in the College Archives and Special Collections Department. This inventory can be purchased from the Department or borrowed through your local library. Check the catalog in your academic or public library for ownership of:

Providence College Phillips Memorial Library (comp.). An Inventory to the Blackfriars' Guild Collection , compiled by [the] Archives Staff. Providence, R.I.: Providence College, 1978.

A revised edition of the Inventory is available in the Department.
