Content and Scope: Nicknamed "The General Manager of the United States," Nelson W. Aldrich (1841-1915) was highly influential in tariff and monetary policies. The Library of Congress holds the originals of this collection, which focuses on the years Aldrich served as a U.S. Senator from Rhode Island (1881-1911) and Chairman of the U.S. National Monetary Commission (1908-1912). Some letters also deal with Aldrich's financial affairs and travel abroad.
