Phillips Memorial Library, Providence College

Providence College' s Phillips Memorial Library will have a Library Commons Open House on October 11th, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. This Open House will focus on recent technology enhancements integrated throughout the library; enhancements that seek to improve student and faculty access to technology and collaboration resources.

We will be spotlighting four new or refreshed areas of the Library Commons:

• The Information Station (main entrance)
  The enhanced reference desk, including a new Macintosh iMac computer and scanning station, along with new furniture and double monitors for improved collaboration and instruction.
• The Support Station (second floor)
  The secondary information desk on our second floor, highlighting new self-serve scanning stations.
• The Digital Services Lab (first floor, room 111)
  The new resource lab and center for patron and library digitization projects and the Providence College Digital Commons. Featuring Macintosh iMac computers, Adobe Creative Suite 3 software, ABBYY Optical Character Recognition software, and a variety of flatbed scanners, as well as staff and training support.
• The Creation Station/Macintosh Lab (first floor, room 110)
  New collaborative computer lab, featuring Macintosh iMac computers, newly updated Adobe Creative Suite 3 software, and flatbed scanners; available for student and faculty use.

Events during the Open House will include:

• Demonstrations of new technology and equipment. Demonstrations will occur throughout the Open House.
• Refreshments available outside the Creation Station/Macintosh Lab
• Raffle Giveaways featuring iTunes Gift Certificates. Flash Drives, and other goodies! Different prizes given away at each station around the library, so be sure to enter at all four.
• And Library Staff available at all stations to answer questions about the Commons and other services.
