Principal Digital Services Assistant.
Full-time/Full-year.  Monday-Thursday, 10:00am-6:00pm, Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm

PRIMARY FUNCTION
This position provides technical and logistical support for library patrons and staff in all digital project activities: hardware, software, scanning, processing, printing, scheduling, etc.  This position assists the Cataloging and Digital Projects Librarian in all digital projects and supervises the Digital Services Assistant and pertinent student assistants.  Archival and Special Collections of the College and the Province will be high-priority digital projects.  Duties are broadly defined and are subject to functional policies and goals with general managerial direction.  Frequently may exercise independent judgment and make recommendations to supervisor in determination of actions to be taken within and outside of established guidelines.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist Cataloging & Digital Projects Librarian as needed in all aspects of digital projects, including digitizing/scanning items and collections, processing, organizing and storing the scans for PC's Digital Commons repository, various collections on the Web and as part of the HELIN's digital repository and other collections, on both PC and Macintosh platforms (30%)
  2. Assist PC students, faculty and staff, and HELIN consortium patrons with all aspects of their scanning and digitization needs on both PC and Macintosh platforms (25%)
  3. Both oversee and coordinate the work of the .5FTE/20 hours per week Digital Services Assistant and collaborate with the supervisor(s)of 1.0 FTE (ca. 4 students) Student Commons Assistants (20%)
  4. Compose and produces correspondence and reports (5%)
  5. Designs and produces reports, and researches data and information on the Internet (5%)
  6. May identify and make recommendations for additional or modified departmental systems.  With approval, may design and implement new or modified systems (5%)
  7. May, with supervision, organize and coordinate special projects including presentations, educational programs and special events (5%)
  8. May serve as internal resource on departmental administrative questions (3%)
  9. Answers phones, greets and directs visitors to appropriate areas or persons (2%)

REPORTS TO:  Cataloging & Digital Projects Librarian

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:  High School diploma or equivalent required; library or office experience; skills and experience with scanning/digitization, PC's and Macintoshes preferred
