Registration Procedures and Course Offerings

Summer 2008

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

Normal business hours for the Graduate Studies Office are 8:30AM – 4:30PM , Monday through Friday and registrations are accepted between the hours of 9:00AM – 4:00PM .  However, please note that during summer, beginning June 8th – August 24th the office will close at 2:00PM on Fridays.

 

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

New students may register for courses either in person or by mail.   Active students are asked to register for courses online via CyberFriar at http://cyberfriar.providence.edu . In order to access this site you will need your Banner ID and password.  If you experience difficulty accessing this site, contact Enrollment Services at (401)865-1033 for assistance.

Summer Session I

Classes begin on May 19 and end June 20.  Classes meet twice a week unless other wise noted.  Classes will not be held and the Graduate Studies Office will be closed on Monday, May 26, 2008 in observance of Memorial Day.  The make-up day will be Friday, June 20.

Summer II

Classes begin on June 23 and end on July 24, 2008.  The Graduate Studies Offices will be closed on Friday, July 4, 2008 in observance of the Independence Day Holiday. 

 

  TUITION PAYMENTS MUST BE MADE AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION. 

If you are registering via the web, payment must be made at the time of registration by credit card (VISA or MasterCard) in order to secure your enrollment.

If your tuition will be paid by financial aid, tuition remission or by a third party, you are required to complete the necessary paperwork prior to enrolling in classes.  Financial aid recipients must reapply every year.  Tuition remission authorizations must be completed with Human Resources, Harkins Hall, Room 407 prior to registration.  Third party authorization forms must be submitted to the Bursar’s Office, Harkins Hall, Room 400 at the time of registration.

 

College policy states that payment or proof of payment is required at the time of registration.  Failure to do so may result in being dropped for non-payment.

 

Students will be charged a $100.00 fee to be re-registered in courses from which they have been dropped for non-payment.

Campus Parking

Parking is allowed only upon issue of a permit from the Office of Safety and Security which is located next to the Huxley Avenue gate.  You will need to bring your driver’s license, registration and proof of automobile insurance to register your car.  All cars must be registered to park on campus.

 

Additional parking has been provided for Graduate Students in the parking garage next to the Peterson Recreation Center during the regular semesters.

 

Refund Policy

Students who fail to notify the Graduate Studies Program Office before the first day of class that they do not plan to attend will be charged appropriately.  The refund policy is as follows:

            Before the first meeting             100%

            Before the second meeting        75%

            Before the third meeting            50%

            After the third meeting              no refund

 

Any graduate student expecting to qualify for financial aid must be enrolled for at least two courses.

 

The Graduate Program reserves the right to cancel any course for insufficient registration.

 

No student may take more than two courses before being accepted into a graduate program.

 

Reminders

The Special Education Comprehensive Exam will be administered on December 15 at 8 :30 a.m. in Harkins Hall.  Please register with the Graduate Studies Office.  Only registered students will receive the study areas and this is your responsibility.  You will not be notified of your eligibility.

 

All students desiring certification in Administration, Counseling Special Education or Literacy   must complete a portfolio based on their program requirements.

 

Any graduate student who plans to enroll in an Administrative Internship in the Spring 2008 semester must see Mr. Leary in Harkins 403 before November 1.

 

Any graduate student who plans to enroll in a Counseling Internship in the Spring 2008 semester must see Mr. Freda in Harkins 325 before November 1.  Edu 829, Designing and Implementing a Counseling Program is a requirement for students desiring school counseling certification.  This applies only to students admitted after the Summer 2006.

 

Any graduate student who plans to enroll in Special Education student teaching in the spring or summer semester must see Dr. Flaherty in Harkins 209 before November 1, 2008 .

 

Commencement Information

 

It is the responsibility of the students to fill out the essential forms for graduation during registration for his/her final course.  If the course you are presently registering for is your last course to fulfill your degree requirements, please fill out the required forms in the Office of Graduate Studies with Mrs. Daniels.  Degrees will be available to those students who have completed all requirements, and filled out the necessary forms.  The December graduates are urged to participate in the May commencement.

 

Attention:  Counseling Students who are enrolled in a masters degree program (42 credits)

Edu 829, Designing and Implementing a Counseling Program is a requirement for students wishing to obtain Rhode Island State Counseling certification.  This applies only to students admitted after the Summer Session 2006.
