Teaching Philosophy

Effective teachers are those who develop learners who can think critically and find new ways to approach old paradigms.  Leaders of successful organizations are those who continually ask of themselves and their organizations, "what is different about today from yesterday?"  This development of the ability to question and continuously assess is essential to providing our Nation's Armed Forces with the highest caliber leaders who can thrive in uncertainty and ambiguity.  My role as a teacher is to create a climate of continual assessment and impart that quality to my Cadets.

Research & Interests

I have been an avid student of history, particularly military history, from a young age.  I believe that the knowledge and continued study of history is in many ways, a study in leadership, as human events are often shaped by human decisions. Additionally, the study of history connects us to something larger than ourselves and puts those of us in the service profession into proper perspective as to our role in organizations. While many view the study of history as a means of preventing mistakes previously made, I view history as a tool bag that current leaders can use to apply second hand experience to new situations.

Developing leaders of character is clearly my vocation.  Throughout my Army career, I have had many opportunities to develop leaders and I have enjoyed every one of those opportunities. Here at Providence College I have the unique privilege of developing leaders who will soon go out into the U.S. Army and lead America's sons and daughters in combat.
