Adrian Beaulieu, dean of the Center for International Studies, was quoted in a September 11 Inside Higher Ed article. The story, "Calculating Credits for Short-Term Study Abroad," addressed academic credit for college study abroad participants.
Dr. James M. Carlson, professor of political science, and Dr. Joseph P. Cammarano, assistant professor of political science, were interviewed for the October 27 - November 2 edition of The Providence Business News. The story, "Debates help to extend the classroom," focused on election-related events on college campuses in Rhode Island.
Dr. Robert B. Hackey, professor of health policy and management, was featured in an article that was printed in the December 4 edition of The Providence Journal. The story, "PC's Hackey named R.I. Professor of the Year," noted that Hackey recently was named Rhode Island Professor of the Year by Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Educationc (CASE).
Hackey also was profiled for earning the honor in the December 11 edition of the South County Independent, a southern R.I. weekly newspaper.
Dr. Daniel R. Horne, associate professor of marketing, was interviewed for stories that ran in the November 5 edition of The Wall Street Journal and the November 11 edition of The Troy Pennysaver. The Journal story, "Retailers Offering New Payment Choices," focused on the various ways consumers can pay for goods when the economy is in a downturn. The Pennysaver story, "Tips for Money-Savvy Holiday Shopping," focused on how gift cards during the holiday season make good gifts.
Dr. Sue E. Lehrman, dean of the Providence College School of Business, was interviewed for a story in the October 26 edition of The Providence Journal. The article, "MBA classes thrive in troubled times," focused on how Master's of Business Administration (MBA) programs flourish at colleges and universities in trying economic times.
Dr. MaryJane Lenon, associate professor of economics, was interviewed live by local and national broadcast outlets for her expertise on the federal government's then-$700 billion bailout plan. Lenon was interviewed by ABC-6 TV in Providence on September 19 and by National Public Radio (NPR) in a five-state simulcast program that originated in Wisconsin on September 20. She was interviewed for later broadcast purposes by WPRI-TV Channel 12 (CBS) in East Providence on September 29.
Lenon also was quoted in a story that was printed in the December 10 edition of The Bristol (Conn.) Press. The article, "Bleak months ahead, according to editors of 'Conn. Economy,'" was based on the latest issue of The Connecticut Economy: A University of Connecticut Quarterly Review, of which Lenon is co-editor.
Jacqueline Kiernan MacKay, associate dean of undergraduate studies and director of the PC Parents Program, was interviewed for a story, "Helping 'helicopter parents' to stop hovering," which appeared in the Fall 2008 College and University Guide of the Rhode Island Catholic, the newspaper of the Diocese of Providence. This feature article built on commentaries she authored that appeared in the Sept. 6 edition of The Providence Journal and the Sept. 1 issue of The Hartford Courant. The piece also was posted on the Web site of College Parents for America, a national association dedicated to serving current and future college parents.
Jonathan F. Stone, adjunct instructor of finance, was profiled in a story that was printed in the December 17 edition of The Providence Journal. The story, "The new keeper of the Bay," highlighted Stone being named executive director of Save the Bay.
