Teaching Philosophy

My role as a college professor is to introduce and interest students - both biology and non-biology majors - to a particular area of biology in fulfillment of the often quoted expression, "chance favors the prepared mind." I believe strongly that a goal of education is to encourage a life-time of learning. I strive to conduct my classes in a relatively informal and non-intimidating atmosphere; an appropriate blend of humor works for me. At the same time, the material and the assignments are innovative and challenging and a high standard of performance is expected.

Research & Interests

Dr. Krasner has had a career-long dedication to microbiology with a special interest in the host-dynamic relationship involved in infectious diseases. For 30 years he has directed the Summer Science Program for High School Students, held each July on the PC campus. Since 1975, more than 800 students have studied environmental biology, DNA, biotechnology, and the human genome through this enrichment program. He also has led numerous programs to improve science teaching among secondary school educators, with a special emphasis on microbiology and, most recently, bio-terrorism.
