Teaching Philosophy

My principal goal is for students to develop their critical skills and realize persuasive interpretations of literary texts. In a broader context, foreign language study at all levels approximates students to a distinct cultural and linguistic framework.  By experiencing difference through language, students acquire a deeper understanding of the other.

Research & Interests

My research interests focus primarily on contemporary Spanish fiction, especially the novel and theater.  Much of my scholarship deals with Juan Benet, generally considered one of the most influential writers in Post-Civil War Spain.  I am currently interested in the ways writers utilize Gothic constructs to reject the tenets of Spanish neorealism.
