Teaching Philosophy

At a time in our history when technology has made an unprecedented abundance of information available to virtually everyone, I believe the ability to identify, evaluate and effectively use information is an essential intellectual tool--not only for success in college but also for lifelong learning.  As an instruction librarian my job is to work with students and faculty to develop and enhance this vital skill.  After first ensuring that needed information resources are available, I endeavor, through one-on-one interactions as well as formal classes and online tutorials, to ensure that students learn how to use these resources effectively and efficiently in support of their academic pursuits and to meet other information needs.

Research & Interests

My research interests are primarily in the area of studying how students access information and what pedagogical methods are most effective in improving their information seeking and evaluation skills.

Research in Progress: Study of how courses in academic librarianship are taught in American library schools.
