AMERICAN STUDIES
AMS 470 003/HIS 481 001 – Seminar - America Between the Wars 1918-1941
R. McCarthy
This seminar will look at America during a turbulent, anxious, and exciting period. Students will examine America in the “Roaring Twenties” in all its business, political and cultural aspects. The collapse of the capitalist system in the Great Depression and the efforts of Presidents Hoover and Franklin Roosevelt to alleviate its effects will be examined. The course will conclude with the outbreak of the Second World War in Europe and American participation by 1941. Students will research pertinent people and events of the time and read relevant monographs of the period.
ASIAN STUDIES
AST 480 001 – Asian Perspective Seminar: Tibet
A. Norton
This course will study Tibet and surrounding countries in cultural context. History, religion, politics, art and everyday life will be examined, and age-old traditions will be studied in terms of both continuity and change. During the course there will be an exhibition of Tibetan arts in the Reilly Gallery. As part of the exhibition, two Tibetan monks from the Namgyal Monastery in Ithaca , NY will create a Sand Mandala.

ANTHROPOLOGY
In addition to courses regularly scheduled each semester, there are other opportunities for study of peoples and cultures from an anthropological perspective. Individual students who would like to take any of the courses listed below, by arrangement and through acceptance of the responsibility entailed in the use of a directed reading format, are invited to contact the Coordinator of Anthropology, Department of Sociology, Howley Hall 108, ext 2517.

WOMEN'S STUDIES
The Women’s Studies Program now offers a major in addition to the minor. The three new cross listings offered this semester not only amplify our diverse courses, but also add new cultural, literary, and theoretical dimensions to our offerings.
MUSIC
Applied Music - Registration & Fee
These are private lessons taught by an instructor on a one-to-one basis. Lessons are given once a week and do not count as a fifth course. There is an additional charge of $500.00 for lessons each semester. Students must register with the Music Department during the first week of the semester to receive a lesson schedule and be assigned an instructor. Students who do not register with the Music Department during the first week of the semester cannot be guaranteed lesson space. If an instrument is unavailable at the College, the student is responsible for its rental fee. The Department cannot stow most instruments because of space constraints.
Concert Chorale and I Cantori
These choirs are by audition only. Students wishing to audition for either choir must contact Dr. Michele Holt during the first week of the semester to set-up an audition appointment.
