Providence College to Present Tres Vidas

Providence, R.I.--The renowned Core Ensemble will perform Tres Vidas, a new chamber piece, at the Ryan Concert Hall in the Smith Center for the Arts at Providence College on October 8 at 7:00 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public.

Tres Vidas focuses on the life and work of three significant Latin and South American women--painter Frida Kahlo of Mexico, peasant activist Rufina Amaya of El Salvador, and poet Alfonsina Storni of Argentina.

From a script written by Chilean poet and writer Marjorie Agosin, actress Georgina Corbo, who has appeared in the Law & Order and New York Undercover television series, portrays each of the three women. The performance will include traditional Mexican folk songs and Argentinean popular and tango music.

Since its inception in 1993, the Core Ensemble has toured nationally and internationally. The ensemble is comprised of Tahirah Whittington on cello, Hugh Hinton on piano, and Michael Parola on percussion. It was the recipient of the 2000 Eugene McDermott Award for Excellence in the Arts by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

For more information on the performance, contact Cheryl Barry, administrative assistant in the Department of Music, at (401) 865-2183.
