Friar Fridays Offer PC Hopefuls Academic Previews

Providence, R.I.--The Office of Admission at Providence College is hosting Friar Fridays, a series of open house informal sessions intended to offer prospective students a deeper insight into various academic programs.

All events will run from 12:30 to 5:00 p.m. on Friday afternoons. The final session, which will be devoted to fine arts, will be a special "Friar Wednesday" on November 11.

The academic programs highlighted during Friar Fridays include the School of Business, the School of Professional Studies, humanities and social sciences, natural sciences and mathematics, and fine arts.

Representatives from the Office of Career Services, Office of Admission, and Office of Financial Aid are also part of the weekly program.

"We decided to have Friar Fridays as a way to have a more one-on-one approach in showcasing our various majors and programs of study," said Jennifer K. O'Connor, associate dean of admission.

"It provides the student with a more detailed look into the academic offerings and the career outcome preparation, as well as admission and financial aid procedures," she added.

Those in attendance will begin with a general session before being directed to more specific locations depending on their majors. There, they will sit in on discussion and presentation panels led by faculty and current students who are teaching or majoring in a given discipline.

The remainder of the schedule, including the academic programs participating, is as follows:

  • October 9: natural science and mathematics
  • October 16: School of Business
  • October 23: School of Professional Studies
  • October 30: humanities and social sciences
  • November 6: natural sciences and mathematics
  • November 11: "Friar Wednesday," fine arts
