Providence, R.I.--The Providence College Department of Theology recently was approved as a chapter in Theta Alpha Kappa--the national theology and religious studies honor society. The name of PC's chapter is Alpha Iota Mu (AIM).
PC joins more than 200 Theta Alpha Kappa chapters and more than 10,000 individual members. Founded in 1976, the society is the only national honor society dedicated to recognizing academic excellence in baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate students and in scholars in the fields of religious studies and theology.
Following the chapter approval, nine PC students were inducted into the chapter. They are Charles da Silva '10 (Raynham, Mass.), Matthew Gebhart '11 (Cranston, R.I.), Kevin Dello Iacono '07 & '09G (North Scituate, R.I.), graduate student Patrick Krisak (Trenton, N.J.), Jesse Mack '10 (Ellington, Conn.), Megan MacQueen '09 (Sutton, Mass.), Robert Pfunder '09 (Carlsbad, Calif.), Kathryn Polakovic '09 (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), and Megan Prahin '09 (Sugarland, Texas).
To be eligible for induction, students must have a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) in religious studies and/or theology and a 3.0 overall GPA. In addition, students must have completed three full-time semesters and 12 credit hours in theology.
