Providence, R.I.--The Office of Institutional Advancement will be hosting Providence College's most generous and dedicated benefactors on campus for the first annual St. Dominic Weekend on October 2 and 3.
Invitees will include individuals who have created endowed scholarship funds and members of special giving societies that recognize major donors to PC: the St. Dominic Society, the Harkins Society, and the 1917 Society.
"Our goal in inviting our most loyal financial supporters to a weekend on campus is to demonstrate for these alumni/ae, parents, and friends how much their contributions mean to Providence College and to our students. We want our donors to be engaged in the life of the College and to understand the challenges PC faces in maintaining our position as a leading Catholic liberal arts college," said College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. '80.
St. Dominic Society membership is comprised of donors who make a minimum annual leadership gift of $1,000 to Providence College. Younger alumni achieve membership at giving levels based upon year of graduation. Harkins Society members are those benefactors who have included PC in their estate plans, while the 1917 Society recognizes donors whose cumulative lifetime giving to PC is $250,000 and above.
Weekend highlights
St. Dominic Weekend highlights will include a pin blessing during Mass to honor Harkins Society members, a Scholarship Donor Luncheon for scholarship and Angel Fund leadership donors, and the signature event, the St. Dominic Gala on Saturday, October 3. The gala will celebrate the impact the College's leadership supporters have had on the lives of current students. It also will feature the 1917 Society induction ceremony, recognizing alumni and friends whose lifetime record of generosity is exemplary.
On Saturday afternoon, a "President's Forum" will provide an opportunity for donors to meet with Father Shanley and his Senior Cabinet members to learn firsthand about the College's strategic priorities and its most pressing issues and opportunities.
Throughout the weekend, attendees will have multiple opportunities to meet with student leaders, faculty members, coaches, Dominican Friars, and administrators. During "Campus Showcase" trolley tours, College representatives will highlight enhancements in buildings including Harkins Hall, Slavin Center, St. Dominic Chapel, and the Smith Center for the Arts.
Beyond the campus, a private reception in Downtown Providence will showcase the internationally acclaimed WaterFire Providence, an arts installation on the city's rivers.
Weekend activities will include athletics contests, a "Breakfast in Friartown" with athletics representatives and Friar coaches, and a meeting of the Parents for Providence Leadership Council. The weekend also will mark the debut of PC's School of Business Advisory Council, comprised of alumni/ae executives and other business leaders locally and nationally.
