Providence, R.I.--The former president of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) in the United States and Canada will lecture on "Dominican Women in the 21st Century" at this year's St. Catherine of Siena Lecture at Providence College on Thursday, April 23, at 4:00 p.m.
Sponsored by the Office of Mission and Ministry, the lecture by Sister Diane Kennedy, O.P. will take place in the Center for Catholic and Dominican Studies on campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Sister Kennedy, a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa (Wis.), is the associate provost of Dominican University in River Forest, Ill. In addition to her role with the ATS, she was previously the academic dean of the Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis, Mo.
In 1976, Sister Kennedy helped to establish the Parable Conference for Dominican Life and Mission in Forest Park, Ill. Additionally, she was once the vicaress general for the Sinsinawa Dominicans.
She earned a master's degree in theology at the Aquinas Institute, a master's degree in English from the University of Notre Dame, and a doctoral degree in ministry from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, Calif.
The annual St. Catherine of Siena Lecture is designed to mark the April 29 feast day of St. Catherine of Siena, who was a 14th century Tertiary of the Dominican Order.
