Providence, RI-- Providence College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. recently announced in letters to the Boards of Directors at the Station Education Fund and the Station Family Fund, the establishment of the Rebecca Shaw Higher Education Grant, which will be available exclusively to any of the 76 children who lost a parent as a result of the Station Nightclub fire.
Named to honor the memory of Rebecca Shaw, a Providence College student and the daughter of one of the College's long-time faculty members who also lost her life in the fire, the scholarship will be offered to any of these children who qualify for admission to the undergraduate school at Providence College. The grant will provide 100 percent of demonstrated need for tuition expenses and will be renewable annually for the student's four years of undergraduate education.
Providence College is making this opportunity available through multiple foundations, including the Station Education Fund, the Station Family Fund, and the Rhode Island Foundation.
Founded in June 2007, the Station Education Fund is a 501-c-3 non-profit that has been working with individual school representatives across the state in an effort to secure educational assistance for all of the youngsters ranging in age from 4 to 23 years. In a recent press release, the Station Education Fund announced that Providence College is one of seven higher education institutions in Rhode Island participating to date. The others are Johnson and Wales University, New England Institute of Technology, Bryant University, Roger Williams University, Brown University, and Salve Regina University.
