Providence, RI--Four PC alumni who are prominent in the world of sports are featured in a series of public service announcements (PSAs) that will air this winter on local and regional telecasts involving Friar athletic teams.
Featured in the 30-second video spots that are running during televised BIG EAST Conference men’s and women’s basketball games—as well as other broadcast PC athletic contests—are Doris Burke ’87 & ’92G, a broadcaster for ESPN/ABC Sports; Richard Gotham ’86, president of the Boston Celtics; Joe Hassett ’77, senior vice president/investments of Banc of America Investments and the radio color analyst for PC men’s basketball; and Providence Journal sportswriter Sean McAdam ’81, who also contributes to ESPN.com and co-hosts a sports program on Sports Radio WEEI.
The PSAs will premiere during the men’s basketball home games on the video scoreboard at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center on January 9, 2008 and will be featured during future games. In addition to airing during PC games televised locally on Cox Sports Television and regionally through ESPN Regional Television, one will air on NESN (New England Sports Network) on March 7, when the men’s ice hockey team faces off against Boston University in Boston.
Produced by the College’s Division of College Relations and Planning, the PSAs are intended to further position PC’s distinctive brand of higher education in the minds of television sports audiences.
Burke and Hassett, who each played basketball, are members of the PC Athletic Hall of Fame. One of Hassett’s daughters, Whitney, is a member of the Class of 2008, while his daughter Shawna Hassett Iannuccilli is an alumna of the Class of 2003. McAdam’s daughter, Elizabeth, is a member of the Class of 2010.
Each of the PSAs highlights a different aspect of the Providence College experience through personal testimonials about the impact that PC has made on the lives of these featured alumni.
