PC Schedules Presidential Debate Watch

Providence, R.I.--The Department of Political Science at Providence College--together with members of PC's chapter of Phi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society--bring national election-year issues to campus with a Presidential Debate Watch scheduled for Wednesday evening, October 15.

The event, which is open to the public, will be held in McPhail's Entertainment Facility, located in the lower level of PC's Slavin Center.

In announcing the event, Dr. Richard M. Battistoni, professor of political science and chair of the department, said "We want to bring together students, faculty, and others in the larger community to talk about the issues that matter in the election and to hear what the presidential candidates have to say about them."

Battistoni has been prominently involved in national projects to encourage both the civic engagement of young voters in the democratic process as well as in service learning programs in support of community initiatives.

A panel discussion beginning at 8 p.m. will include political science faculty members Dr. Joseph P. Cammarano, whose teaching specialties include the presidency, and Dr. James Carlson, whose expertise includes media and politics as well as political behavior. Joining them on the panel are Phi Sigma Alpha representatives and political science majors Meghan Whelan '09 of Westfield, Mass., and Ryan Whalen '09 of Warwick, R.I.

The televised third, and final, U.S. Presidential Debate between Senators John McCain and Barack Obama will follow at 9 p.m.

Seating is limited. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and refreshments will be served.
