Friar Golf Classic Nets $75,000

Providence, R.I.--The Providence College Department of Athletics raised more than $75,000 for the Friars Forever Athletic Fund at the 10th annual Cox Sports Friar Golf Classic on June 1.

The event was held at Warwick Country Club in Warwick, R.I., and was attended by 110 golfers--including men's ice hockey coach Tim Army '85, head men's basketball coach Keno Davis, women's ice hockey coach Bob Deraney, and head women's basketball coach Phil Seymore.

Former Friar basketball players Marvin Barnes '74, Delray Brooks '88, Otis Thorpe '84, and Ricky Tucker '83 also took part in the event.

Following the tournament, more than 150 people attended a dinner and live auction hosted by Dale Arnold from 103.7 WEEI-FM--the radio home of PC men's basketball. The auction, which featured items ranging from autographed jerseys from various professional athletes to tickets to professional and PC sporting events, raised more than $15,000.

"The Cox Sports Friar Classic was a tremendous day for PC athletics and our loyal supporters," said Steven R. Napolillo '98, associate athletic director for the Friar Athletic Fund. "Even during these difficult economic times, Providence College continues to have passionate and generous supporters who believe in our coaches and student-athletes."
