New PC Faculty to Share Views on Teaching, Research

Providence, R.I.--The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and the Office of Academic Affairs at Providence College will co-sponsor the first annual installment of Presenting…Our New Faculty!, a program that will allow new faculty members to share their teaching and research interests.

The event will be held in Slavin Center '64 Hall on Thursday, November 5, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

In previous years, new faculty members were invited to a New Faculty Reception in October, where they could meet with members of the academic community, said Dr. Laurie L. Grupp, director of the CTE and associate professor of education.

Although the new format will remain largely informal, it is designed to let new faculty members make the initial introductory step. Most notably, the room will be adorned with posters profiling the background and research interests of several new faculty members.

"The new format of this event aims to stimulate conversations and encourage relationship-building across disciplines," said Alyssa Neubecker, coordinator of faculty and administrative support services in the Office of Academic Affairs.

Thirty-one new, full-time faculty members were hired at the College for the 2009-10 academic year. Of the new hires, 22 are tenure-track, including nine who come from full-time teaching positions at other institutions and four who were post-doctoral fellows.

For more information on the event, contact Susan M. Hanoian, administrative assistant in the CTE at (401) 865-1340.
