Foundation Awards $100,000 to PC’s Angell Scholarship Fund

Providence, R.I.--The Angell Foundation of Los Angeles, Calif., recently donated $100,000 to The David and Lynn Angell Scholarship Fund at Providence College.

Established in 1994 as the David L. Angell Scholarship Fund with a $100,000 pledge from Mr. Angell '69, the endowed fund benefits students based on financial need and academic merit. The $100,000 gift brings the current market balance in the fund to approximately $232,000.

Sixteen students have received Angell Scholarship aid since disbursements began in 1996. Several have received assistance more than once, including three current undergraduates who have been chosen as repeat recipients for the 2009-10 academic year.

Mr. Angell, who was the executive producer of NBC's Frasier sitcom, and his wife, Lynn, died tragically on September 11, 2001.

The Angell Foundation is a grant-making organization that builds upon the charitable promise of Mr. and Mrs. Angell. The foundation promotes and advances high-impact programs and initiatives that help empower people and has five areas of focus: spirituality, the arts, youth initiatives, education, and social justice.

The $100,000 gift to The David and Lynn Angell Scholarship Fund continues a pattern of generosity to the College by the foundation. Previously, the foundation donated $2 million to the Smith Center for the Arts and contributed funding to the Providence Alliance for Catholic Teachers (PACT) program and the retreat program run by the Office of the Chaplain/Campus Ministry.
