Providence, R.I.--The deadline for nominations for the highest teaching honor at Providence College is approaching.
Nominations for the 2009 Joseph R. Accinno Faculty Teaching Award will be accepted from alumni, faculty, staff, and students until November 3.
The award is presented annually to the current tenured faculty member who best exhibits excellence in teaching, passion and enthusiasm for learning, and genuine concern for students' academic and personal growth. It is named for the late brother of John J. Accinno '46 C.P.A., a member of the Providence President's Council. The award was established in 2002.
The award program is administered by the Teaching Award Selection Committee. The recipient receives a cash stipend, is formally acknowledged at the College's Academic Convocation, and has his or her name inscribed on a plaque in Phillips Memorial Library.
The 2008 Accinno Award recipient was Dr. Robert B. Hackey, professor of health policy and management. The 2007 recipient was Dr. Margaret M. Manchester, assistant professor of history, who recently received a Fulbright Scholarship to teach in Hungary.
