Providence College Class of 2005:
Three Rhode Island Achievers Heading for Brown University
Three Rhode Island students who have achieved significant success and multiple honors in their undergraduate careers at Providence College will begin advanced studies at Brown University in the fall. Two will attend the medical school there, while the other enters a specialized Ph.D. program.
- Steven Rougas, a resident of Cranston, has earned a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry and a bachelor of arts degree in music – achieving the highest academic record in each of those departments. While working to attain two degrees, Steven was a member of the College’s Pep Band and Jazz Band, participated in musical theatre programs, and was a member of the Pre-Medical Honor Society. He pursued his studies as a member of the Liberal Arts Honors Program and will graduate with Magna Cum Laude honors. Steven will attend Brown Medical School.
- Stephanie Tecun, a resident of Central Falls, immigrated to the United States from Guatemala with her family in 1994 – and not one of them could speak a word of English. Through public and parochial schooling, Stephanie earned a full tuition scholarship to Providence College, where she has earned a bachelor of science degree in biology. She is the recipient of the Thomas Aquinas Health Professions Award, which is presented annually by the College to the pre-medial senior who best exemplifies the ideals of St. Thomas Aquinas in scholarship, moral character, and devotion to Providence College. Graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors, Stephanie will attend Brown University Medical School.
- Keeley Wray, a resident of North Kingstown , has earned a bachelor of science degree in biology with a minor in music. A member of the Liberal Arts Honors Program, Keeley is the recipient of the Rev. Charles V. Reichart, O.P. Award, which is given annually to the graduating student of Providence College who best exemplifies Father Reichart’s dedication to the advancement of the biological sciences as evidenced by his or her scholarship, intellectual curiosity, disciplined perseverance, and scientific integrity. Keeley also served as president of the Campus Ministry Council and was recognized with the Kapstein Family Scholarship Award, which was established to honor Rev. Edward Flannery by recognizing a Providence College senior who has been active in promoting interfaith relations during his or her undergraduate career. She will graduate with Magna Cum Laude honors and will pursue the Ph.D. program offered by the Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Bio-Chemistry Department at Brown University.
