Former GE CEO Jack Welch will Answer Questions and Sign Books at Providence College on Wednesday, October 5, 2005

Providence, RI -- Jack Welch, former chairman and chief executive officer of General Electric Company, will be at Providence College on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 to answer questions about his legendary career and sign copies of his latest book, Winning. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Ryan Family Concert and Lecture Hall in the Smith Center for the Arts on the Providence College campus. Welch will field questions from the audience for the first hour of the program and then sign books, which will be available on-site for purchase. The event is free and open to the public.

Born in Salem, Massachusetts, Welch received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Massachusetts and his master's and doctorate degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois.

Welch began his career with the General Electric Company in 1960 and in 1981 became the company's eighth chairman and chief executive officer. In his 20 years at GE, Welch transformed the company, increasing market value from $13 billion to $500 billion. Upon his retirement in 2001, Welch wrote a best-selling autobiography, JACK: Straight From The Gut. He also spent much of his time traveling around the world, speaking to people at every level of an organization, answering their questions on dozens of wide-ranging topics. These sessions were the inspiration for his latest book, Winning, which was released earlier this year.

Welch is currently the head of Jack Welch, LLC, where he serves as an advisor to a small group of Fortune 500 business CEOs and speaks to businesspeople and students around the world.
