Providence, RI- A ten-day, graduate-credit workshop for middle school and high school science teachers and school nurses entitled, "Teaching about Bioterrorism," will be held at Providence College beginning on June 25, 2003.  The goal of the workshop is to help high school educators develop a flexible curriculum that addresses bioterrorism and biological weapons, and will include lectures, "hands-on" laboratory exercises, and guest lecturers from community agencies charged with emergency preparedness.

Dr. Robert I. Krasner, professor of biology at Providence College, will direct the workshop.  A faculty member at Providence College for more than 40 years, Krasner is the author of a textbook, The Microbial Challenge.  In addition to a Ph.D. in biology, Krasner holds a master's degree in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health and is a member of the American Society for Microbiology.   Mrs. Leslie Martinelli, chair of the science department at LaSalle Academy in Providence, will be the lead teacher for the program.

Tuition for the workshop is $650, and three graduate credits will be granted from Providence College.  For more information or to register for the classes, please contact Dr. Krasner at 401-865-2239.
