St. Dominic Chapel

Chapel

Dedicated in February 2001, St. Dominic Chapel is the College's first free-standing chapel and serves as the center of worship for the campus community. It was constructed on the site of the War Memorial Grotto, a magnificent stone tribute to alumni who fought and died in World War II and other conflicts. The original statuary was incorporated into a smaller scale grotto in the chapel courtyard.

The Chapel is named for St. Dominic Guzman, the founder of the Dominican Order of Preachers, a teaching and preaching order that dates from the 13th century.  It accommodates 600 worshipers and features a massive pipe organ, 45 stained glass windows by the artist Sylvia Nicolas, a Romanesque crucifix and stations of the Cross, and a gold-plated brass tabernacle. The chapel's lower level houses the Office of the Chaplain and the Campus Ministry Center, which includes the offices of the Campus Ministry Council and Pastoral Service Organization.

St. Dominic Hall

Dominic Hall

Located near the center of campus, the circa-1850 granite building was part of the Good Shepherd property purchased by the College in 1955. It is listed with the National Register of Historic Places and was most recently refurbished in 1999. Also named for St. Dominic, founder of the Dominican Order, the building serves as the residence for the College's president.

St. Thomas Aquinas Priory / Gragnani Dominican Center

Priory

Opened in 1984, the St. Thomas Aquinas Priory / Gragnani Dominican Center is home for the Dominican friars who teach, lead and serve at Providence College. The building includes rooms for 40 Friars, a library, meeting rooms, common dining and recreational facilities and Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel.

The priory bears the name of St. Thomas Aquinas, the 13th century Dominican theologian, philosopher and doctor of the Church. The building's name also honors Frank Gragnani, a member of PC's class of 1940, and his wife Charlotte, major benefactors of the College for many years.
