Collegewide tribute to Father Smith planned

Alumni are cordially invited to join the collegewide sendoff for President Rev. Philip A. Smith, O.P. on Saturday, June 18, on the College campus.

“A Tribute in Honor of Rev. Philip A. Smith, O.P.” will acknowledge the dedication, service, and many accomplishments of Father Smith in support of the College’s mission. He will conclude his 11 years as president on June 30, 2005.

The evening tribute will begin with Mass at 6:15 in St. Dominic Chapel. Father Smith will be the celebrant, assisted by priests in the Dominican Community at the College. Following Mass, at 7:15 p.m., there will be a cocktail reception and dinner in the Peterson Recreation Center.

Tickets are $50 per person or $500 for tables of 10. All proceeds will support the Smith Center for the Arts, which is dedicated to the College president.

In addition to attendance, there are two other ways to show your appreciation for Father Smith’s accomplishments and leadership. A donation can be made directly to the Smith Center for the Arts. Also, you can offer your congratulations to Father Smith and support the arts center by placing an advertisement in the program booklet. Ads range from $250 for a quarter-page message to $2,000 for a full-page inside cover tribute.

Guests who attend the event are invited to stay overnight in a complimentary room in the new Suites Hall on the East Campus. Accommodations also are available at special group rates at four Providence hotels, with prices ranging from $109 to $209 a night.

The deadline for ordering tickets is June 6, while ads for the program booklet must be received by May 24. For more information on tickets, donation and sponsorship opportunities, and accommodations, call the Office of Institutional Advancement at 401-865-2407.
