Having already fulfilled a generous scholarship pledge to the College, the Fred M. Roddy Foundation, Inc. recently extended its financial support of students majoring in premedical sciences with an additional three-year pledge of $195,000.
William F. O’Neil, the College’s assistant vice president for institutional advancement, explained that the pledge made in December 2004 consists of $105,000 for direct scholarships and $90,000 for the endowed scholarship fund at PC that the foundation previously established.
The direct scholarship awards will go straight from the foundation to individual students, while the College will invest the endowed scholarship monies to allow the endowment fund to grow and become self-sustaining.
This donation, O’Neil said, follows an earlier pledge in 2002-2004 of $195,000, which included $120,000 for direct scholarships and $75,000 to establish the endowed scholarship fund.
To date, Roddy Foundation scholarships have benefited 37 PC students, 32 of whom are currently in or have completed medical school studies.
