Alumni returning to Smith Hill for Homecoming Weekend 2005—scheduled for Friday through Sunday, February 18-20—should expect to be busy.
The slate of events kicks off on Friday night. Headlining the activities are the PC National Alumni Association Awards Dinner at 7:00 p.m. in the Providence Biltmore hotel and a “Young Alumni Homecoming Headquarters” reception from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in McPhail’s Entertainment Facility in the Slavin Center on campus.
As with every other year, sports will play a major part in Homecoming 2005 festivities. Friar men’s basketball fans are in for a double treat on Saturday. First, PC hosts Notre Dame in a BIG EAST contest at noon at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. Then, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at The Westin Providence hotel nearby, Friar legends and fans will reunite for “A Year to Remember”—a tribute to former PC coach Dave Gavitt and his 1973 NCAA Final Four team, which included standouts Ernie DiGregorio ’73, Marvin Barnes ’74, and Kevin Stacom ’74.
Alumni also will have opportunities to watch current PC student-athletes compete on the Schneider Arena ice. The men’s hockey squad will host nationally ranked University of Maine in HOCKEY EAST action on Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The two-time defending HOCKEY EAST champion PC women’s team will welcome Boston College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
The campus will be alive with the sound of music on Saturday and Sunday as alumni join current students for concerts in the spanking-new Smith Center for the Arts. An evening of a capella singing will begin at 7:00 on Saturday and feature former and current members of campus groups Anaclastic, Special Guest, and Strictly Speaking. On Sunday, past and current music students will band together for a concert at 2:00 p.m.
Also on Sunday, the College’s Dominican Friars will celebrate Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Dominic Chapel. The Mass will be followed by a champagne brunch in Slavin Center ’64 Hall.
